Manufactured Home Information and
Purchasing and Financing Facts

By now we have a pretty well-rounded picture of the people who own or live in manufactured homes, so now let's look at some information about the homes themselves: How old are they? What are they worth? How are they constructed? We'll also review some information about how the homes were purchased and how they're financed.

Here's a quick overview of the information in this section:

  • The median year of the homes owned by the people surveyed is 1985. The median market value is $20,000.
  • The most popular way to buy a home is new from a dealer - 41% of people surveyed bought their home that way.
  • Thirty-six percent are currently financing their mobile home - that's down from 39% in 1999.
  • Thirty-six percent are multi-section homes.
  • Aluminum is still the most common exterior siding, although vinyl is up to 28%.
  • Forty-nine percent of surveyed homeowners have their homes on their own private property. Thirty-three percent are in a park and do not own their lot.
