2002 Report

Computers and Technology

Are residents of manufactured housing increasing their use of personal computers and the Internet? Do they shop online? Are they big e-mailers? Have a look at the information below and you'll see that owners of manufactured homes are energetically participating in the technology boom.

  • For the first time in our surveys, more than half of respondents report owning a personal computer in their home. There is a huge jump to 56%, up from 40% in 1999.
  • There is also a major increase in people having actually purchased something over the Internet. That number was only 18% in 1999 - it's up to 40% in 2002.
  • The largest use of the Internet is for e-mail, although gathering information and research is a close second.
  • Satellite television service is up to 28%, but cable television is still more popular.
