Foremost is part of Farmers Insurance Group of Companies and does business in the United States. The Foremost Insurance Group of Companies is made up of Foremost Insurance Company, Foremost Signature Insurance Company, Foremost Property and Casualty Insurance Company, American Federation Insurance Company, Foremost County Mutual Insurance Company (Texas) and Foremost Lloyds of Texas. Our insurance is offered in the United States (availability varies by product line). Our corporate offices at 5600 Beech Tree Lane, Caledonia, MI 49316, are located near Grand Rapids, Michigan and we also have regional claim offices in Pennsylvania, Florida, Texas and California. Foremost field marketing and claim representatives are based throughout the country.

Foremost Insurance Company began doing business on June 12, 1952.

In those days, the mobile home industry was in its infancy. Housing was in short supply after World War II and families were growing at a record pace thanks to the "Baby Boom." While mobile homes were an inexpensive solution to the housing problem, no companies yet insured these "homes on wheels."

The opportunity was born.

The early years

Our company began doing business with three people in a one-room office in downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan. In five years we were doing business in 35 states.

That was just the start. Foremost grew at a record pace. We started insuring only mobile homes. That changed quickly. First we developed new ways of insuring recreational vehicles, and in 1961 introduced the first policy designed specifically for travel trailers.

A focus on growth

While the United States moved ahead with giant scientific leaps like the space program, Foremost was moving ahead with a full-scale entry into the RV market. We expanded our insurance programs for RVs in 1969 and continued adding more types of insurance to our product lines in select markets. In 1993 we developed a special dwelling fire insurance program for landlords and owners of older homes.

More recently, we have expanded our specialty lines of insurance to include motorcycles, off-road vehicles, snowmobiles, personal watercraft and boats.

Our growth has been fueled by our willingness to innovate and our commitment to superior claim service. Claim service has been an important part of the Foremost commitment since the earliest days of the company. Our claim representatives are extensively trained to understand what it takes to repair the property we insure.

Foremost joins Farmers

In March 2000, Foremost was acquired by the Farmers Insurance Group of Companies, which is committed to making Foremost the #1 mobile home, specialty and recreational products insurance company in America. 	Foremost is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Farmers Insurance Group of Companies, the nation's fourth-largest insurer of personal property.
	The Foremost corporate offices are located at 5600 Beech Tree Lane, Caledonia, Michigan 49316. Our mailing address is Foremost Insurance Company, PO Box 2450, Grand Rapids, MI 49501-2450.
	Foremost began selling mobile home insurance in 1952.
	In 1961, Foremost introduced TravelSure, the first insurance policy designed specifically for travel trailers. By then, Foremost sold insurance in every state but Hawaii and had passed a milestone – the company had written its one millionth mobile home policy.
	Fire Hurts!, the first arson reward program to target mobile home arsons, was started by Foremost in 1974 and continues today.
	It’s important to us that our customers emphasize safety. In addition to Fire Hurts! we’ve campaigned for tie-down laws. Foremost employees worked with the Department of Housing and Urban Development to help establish the original mobile home building codes in the mid-1970s.
	BASICS®, a dwelling fire insurance program for older homes and landlord properties, was introduced by Foremost in 1993.
	Foremost Classic CL®, an insurance policy for homeowners with credit or loss problems, was introduced in 1999.
	Foremost was acquired by the Farmers Insurance Group of Companies on March 7, 2000.
	In 2000, we introduced Foremost Classic ACV®, an insurance policy with comprehensive coverage for homes that don't quality for replacement cost coverage. During that year, we also began offering insurance for motorcycles, off-road vehicles and snowmobiles.
	Foremost has sponsored Foremost's Butterflies are Blooming, the largest temporary butterfly exhibit in the United States, at the Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park in Michigan since 1996. The six-week exhibit is held each year in March and April.
	In 2002, Foremost began offering an insurance program for personal watercraft.
	In 2003, Foremost first offered its family boaters insurance program.
	Today, Foremost has over 2,000 employees across the country. This includes staff in our home office, regional claim offices, regional agencies and our field marketing and claim staffs.
